Sandy Teede was born in Bunbury on the 21 October 1931, being the 3rd child of 5 boys and 1 girl.  He was educated at Bunbury Central Primary School and Bunbury Senior High School, completing his education in 1929.

Sandy was employed as a clerk in a solicitors office and was a very keen sportsman.  He excelled as a rower, being selected in the West Australian Eight which won the Kings Cup in 1938.  Prior to National Titles, he had lived and trained in Perth for 6 months and returned to Bunbury after the victory. He had also been an active swimmer and a hockey player.

Sandy joined the RAAF in 1939 as a clerk and in 1940 transferred to aircrew training.  After successfully gaining his pilots wings he was posted to England as a bomber pilot.
