Sergeant Buswell was recommended award of the Military Medal- ‘ For conspicuous gallantry. During a hand to hand attack on the enemy’s trenches he took up an exposed position commanding a communication trench from whence, by cutting down the fuses, he used bombs with such deadly effect that he entirely frustrated the efforts of the enemy to reinforce their ranks by that channel. Although exposed to fire from the enemy he stood his ground until the position was consolidated. “
